Consecutive interpreting, where the interpreter repeats what has been said after the first speaker finished one or a few sentences is the most practical for small delegations, during meetings or on location.

Simultaneous interpreting, where the interpreter speaks at the same time as the main speaker, can be done as whisper interpreting  for the benefit of a single delegate. With the right audio equipment (microphone, transmitter and wireless headsets) this service can be extended to as many delegates as necessary.

During conferences, where subject-specific papers are presented, one needs to make use of a soundproof, well ventilated audio booth which seats two interpreters and special conference facilities. The simultaneous interpreters will work as a team and relay eachother.

The quality of the interpreting service will be greatly improved if  documentation and presentations can be made available ahead of time, and the intepreter has an opportunity to research the subject and familiarise themselves with terminlogy before the conference.

This type of translation generally needs to be a “sworn translation” which means the work must be done according to specific requirements by a sworn translator appointed by and registered with the South African High Court.

For official purposes it is generally required that the sworn translator can issue a translation certificate stating that the translation is a “true and correct translation of an original document” and in order to be able to state this, the translator must have seen the original document

You can be assured your original documents will be handled with care. However, in the event you feel you would rather keep the originals, a good quality colour copy or scan can be used for processing, on condition you are able to present the original document upon collection of the original translation.

Rates for sworn translation are on average R300 per document or certificate, while the rate for a translation certificate is R50 and these are payable upon collection.

Manuals and training materials can be very technical in nature because they can contain a lot of industry-specific jargon and terminology. A good translator will do background and subject-related research to ensure existing terminology is used correctly and consequently throughout the manual.

While  professional translators are specialised language practitioners with some technical knowledge, they are generally not specialists in your  field of expertise. It is therefore good practice for the translator to consult with you, the client, with regard to terminology and the final product. Proofreading should generally be done by  a client-appointed expert, who can consult with the translator for the final edit of the document.

Providing your translator with a contact person within your company who can answer technical questions and advise them on terminology issues is a good practice which will result in a better product. Proofreading of the final document by a client-appointed industry expert is an excellent way of ensuring the  final accuracy. Advising the translator of suggested changes allows him or her to continually improve the product. Make the translator part of your team!

Our rates are calculated according to the volume of work , based on the word count, the level of difficulty and the urgency of the document. The cost per word can thus be anything between R0.95 and R1.40 (€0.09 – €0.13).
